SnowCamp.io 2018

2017-sticker_peppercarrot_snowcamp2018_exportI’m one of the organisers of a developers’ conference here in Grenoble, France, the SnowCamp. The 3rd edition took place last week at Minatec. During 3 days, we hosted 10 University workshops, 40 presentations, 3 keynotes, and welcomed 375 attendees. And on the Saturday, we ran a smaller unconference with some of the speakers on the snowy slopes of Chamrousse, the closest ski resort to Grenoble.

It has been 4 very intense days, but I’m really happy with how smooth the event went, and I’m excited to help organising it again next year (no spoiler, but it should take place end of January 2019).

My photos of the event are on my Flickr account, but they are also aggregated with other photographers’ shots on the SnowCamp Flickr Album.

We have a new office…

ForgeRock France office buildingYes, the picture looks familiar for those who have already come to visited us. In fact, we haven’t changed address, we’ve just moved the ForgeRock Grenoble Engineering Center to a new office space, in the same building, doubling in size, building our lab in the facilities.

With now 23 employees based in the Grenoble area, the expansion was long due. We now have more space for everyone, more meeting rooms, a creative area with huge white board, and a dedicated kitchen area.

Last Thursday, Mike Ellis, ForgeRock CEO, and Jonathan Scudder, co-founder were in the office for the opening party.

We also had visitors from the Bristol engineering team, the Vancouver WA engineering team and the Czech republic ProfiQ team, truly showing our diversity and international presence.

I hope that we will continue to grow as we’ve been doing in these first 7 years… We have an amazing team and a great culture. Let’s keep rocking on!
Thanks to Bruno Lavit Photography for the photo coverage!

Additional photos of the office can be found on my Flickr account.

ForgeRock UnSummit in Bristol – March 2nd.

lp0_2813
Allan Foster, VP Global Partner Enablement, master of ceremony of the 2016 San Francisco UnSummit.

On March 2nd, ForgeRock will be hosting an UnSummit, a  free and open to all event, in Bristol.  In an “unconference” format, join us in the ForgeRock’s Bristol offices at Queen’s Square, for a day of discussions, presentations with users, deployers and developers of the ForgeRock Identity Platform.

Top 5 reasons why you (or your team) should join us?

  1. It’s a day for techie’s and nothing like a regular conference
  2. If you’re interested in identity or working on an identity project – it’s a must!
  3. There will be 30+ sessions to choose from during the day
  4. It’s a great opportunity to visit Bristol – one of Britain’s leading “Smart Cities”
  5. It’s complimentary so no charge to attend

You can register and find  more details on the ForgeRock website. And if you’re still hesitating, please check what TechSpark wrote about the coming UnSummit.

I’ll be attending the UnSummit and hope to see you there.

ForgeRock at Grenoble Ekiden…

21680633313_c13f693bcc_zLast Sunday, ForgeRock team participated in the Ekiden, a marathon organized in Grenoble, in favor of various charities, including the “Papillons de Charcot” (literally Charcot’s butterflies, to help people with Charcot’s disease).

The race is a marathon, but run as a relay of 6 persons respectively running 5km, 10km, 5km, 10km, 5km and 7.195km).

The ForgeRock team did great and finished in 3 h 28 min and 6 secs. Congrats to the team and we’re looking forward to next year edition, see if we can register 2 teams.

Back from vacation

I’m back after a late summer break spent across France.  Sunset in North of France

Now it’s back to business full speed, to finish and deliver new major releases of our products by the end of the year.

I will also be traveling and attending a few events. The closer will be “Les Assises de la SĂ©curitĂ©” in Monaco, at the end of the month. If you’re attending the event, drop me a note. I’ll be happy to meet with you and discuss our products and solutions.

My views on ForgeRock Identity Summit

View of the ocean from Half Moon BayTwo weeks ago, I was in the mist of Half Moon Bay, attending the ForgeRock Identity Summit. This is the 3rd conference in the US and each year, the event becomes bigger, nicer and better. The location itself was amazing, sitting on the edge of the Pacific ocean, rocked (or lulled?) by the sounds of the waves.

ForgeRock User Group AttendeesOn the day before the main conference, we hosted a ForgeRock User Group, very well attended and had the opportunity to exchange with our customers, future customers and users about our product directions, and their experiences deploying the products. I’d like to thank the attendees for the great discussions, the sharing, and the excellent feedbacks that are definitely going to translate into product features and enhancements.

I was planning on writing a summary of the conference, but my coworkers did such a good job at it, that I encourage you to read their recap of Day 1 and recap of Day 2. So I leave you with my usual visual summary of the ForgeRock Identity Summit 2015, and all the photos that I’ve taken during the event.

Why I love my job !

At ForgeRock, I have multiple reasons to enjoy what I do. I have the responsibility for two products: OpenDJ, the LDAP directory services and OpenIG the Identity Gateway, and I also manages the French subsidiary. But what really gets me excited in the morning is that I get to work with very smart and passionate people!

Jean-Noël, one of the engineers of the OpenDJ development team, has a passion for beautiful code and AlpesJuggyTranshe loves refactoring, cleaning existing code. On his personal time, he started to automate his process in Eclipse, and then turn it into an Eclipse plugin, and finally made the code available as an open source project: AutoRefactor. Now, in the office, most of the engineers using Eclipse are also using the AutoRefactor plugin.

So when Jean-Noël got to present his work at our local Java User Group (the AlpesJUG), the rest of the team went along and supported him. As one of the other engineers has a passion for photography (which I share), it gives this amazing picture gallery and set of souvenirs for everyone:

PS: It also helps that we are working in a great environment where we can afford to do this⬇︎ (sometime to time) during our lunch break!

A fresh look for the OpenDJ and OpenIG snapshot documentation…

OpenDJ Administration Guide ScreenshotThanks to Chris Lee, the most recent technical writer at ForgeRock, there is now a new visual design for the snapshot documentation for our open source projects.

2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 34,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 13 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
